Looking to Our Inuit Past to Inspire Our Indigenous Futures
Why is it radical to study Inuit history? What will Indigenous studies find looking North of North? Patricia explores why Inuit are rarely present in Indigenous studies and the missed opportunities for solidarity with other Indigenous peoples. The prohibitive travel costs and lack of infrastructure mean Inuit can’t jump in a car to meet you at the next blockade. Yet, Inuit have and continue to face threats to our delicate environment from resource extraction. She speaks to how a close examination of the history of colonialism among Inuit can inform present and future responses to attempts to mine other remote areas like the Ring of Fire.
